I am putting a Ferret 50 23" upper on my Colt Sporter Match HBar, however there is a block in the way that does not allow the upper to seat. Any ideas as to how I over come this issue?Abman

It sounds like you are referring to the infamous Colt sear block.

If you still wish to use this lower with the Ferret upper, you'll either have to mill the block down even with the top of the lower, or remove it altogether.

If I mill/grind down the block, will that impact anything on the orginal upper? As well, will the heavy hammer have any impact if I were to use it on .556?

Cna it be removed with out any problems? is it sweat in place or pinned ///  does it weaken the receiver if removed. In short is it an at home job?

The easiest method would be to use a dremel to cut off the hook part of the block. Then you can grind a little on it until the top of the block is smooth. The lower part of the block is to keep someone from putting an auto sear in the lower receiver, and the hook part of it is to prevent someone from using an M16 bolt carrier in the upper receiver. Removing all or part of the block will not affect the function of the rifle. Removing the entire block is more complicated, but can be done.
