Cabela's has on special 200 round value packs of this .223 stuff for $49.99. They claim it gets 3400fps velocity with a 50 gr. JHP. Any opinions?

Yeah.

That is gonna be $250 plus tax.

Buy it here for $239 shipped to your door.

I havent chronoed it - but based on past experience - most manufacturers pretty much LIE about their velocities... and base it off a 24" or 26" barrel length with a SAAMI match chamber. Sont expect much more than 3200fps out of an AR.

I shot some stock I had for more than a few years this morning. Some of it seemed hotter than others but it did shoot pretty well. Best 5 shot group was 11/16 at 100. Other 3 groups were Inch to Inch and a half. This was in a 24 inch bushmaster varminter.

I haven't purchased any ammo over the web before. Somebody in the Oregon HTF posted that this supplier gives discounts to ARFCOM members.
