Hi there, I am looking at a stripped A-2 upper to buy. My question is, were the ones manufactured by FN marked with "FK", and if it is FN, is it a large or small pin?

No, "FK" is a Bushmaster marking.  "LK" would be an FN marking.

All FN uppers will be small hole or mil-spec.

Many thanks. The seller stated it was a "FN"

The markings don't lie...he's either trying to snowball you or he simply doesn't know what he's talking about.

I wasn't trying to say you were wrong, I came here for the truth. And thank you.

I know you weren't, it's all good.  I wanted to say that some people out there will try and tell you it's an FN just because they have the M16 contract and they feel it will be easier to sell.  There are some legit FN parts out there for sale and there are some people trying to pull the wool over.  Just wanted to make you aware [:)]

Any time!  I usually type faster than I think and sometimes that makes my post seem curt.  I'm trying to work on that because I'm actually very laid back.  Sorry for the bit of confusion.

1. FN (Fabrique Nationale Herstal) Does not sell M16 parts to the public.

2. Any complete upper truly marketed or provided by FN is stamped FNMI on the barrel.

3. Many parts vendors claim to sell FN parts. When I queried some of them and pressed for an answer(specifically M&A parts, JT distributing) they stated that actually they are produced by subcontractors to FN, the same ones that provide many of the parts for the military, that is why they claim they are "FN". Nothing wrong with this, they appear to be quality parts, but I insisted on the clarification. I do not have a problem buying parts made by FN subcontractors, I just would prefer that they state exactly that.

Neither FN or Bushmaster have proprietary markings on their upper receivers. "FK" would be a Kaiser Aluminum, and certainly "could" have been from a FN production run.

While it's true Kaiser Aluminum made the upper, according to biggerhammer.net "FK" would denote that that it came from a Bushmaster production run while "LK" denotes a FN production run.  However, you'll notice where it says these CAN over lap.  So I guess we'll never know [:P]

Turns out all the barrels DPMS had marked FNMI, were an overrun, and they had to have them finished, to include chrome lining, before they could sell them.

I didn't know that! Some good information in this thread.
