I got to play with an Eotech at a funshow,I want one.

I'm saving up for it .

I'll be using it on an HK-91 ,that's an 18 inch barrel .308 .

It'll be low mounted ,not on an HK Claw mount, but not
co-witness either.

CQB for it is unlikely, but I don't wish to eliminate the possibility.

Most of my shooting is between 50 and 300 yards.

I want an AA battery version ,and it must be NVG capable.

I also have glasses for seeing things further away (if that has any effect).
My vision is 20/20 or better with my glasses though.

Should I buy the 552 ,or wait for the 3X magnified AA battery version ?

Will the 3X magnification just slow my response time ,or magnify it just
enough to make shots a little easier ?

I'm getting this sight for a faster response time,so the magnification
could be just a bonus .If it slows me down much ,I don't want it.

The HK is already a heavy weapon,so for my uses an add on magnifier is out.

Any thoughts or recommendations ?

I'm not sure what you're saying... The new 3x magnifed EOTech (when/if it comes out) will be a 2-piece unit. It won't just be the regular 11.4oz EOThingie with the ability to see things three times bigger.

For the intended use you listed, I personally would suggest one of the 1-4 variables, with the Trijicon AccuPoint TR21 being my first choice. It's sort of like your rifle... it's not a CQB optic, but it doesn't rule out the possibility

As far as weight goes, the Accupoint is only 10.4 ounces, plus the mount you choose. Since yours is the HK, it won't need the LaRue SPR-E like an AR, so you won't be adding 7 more ounces to it. It is also night vision compatible.

I suggest you check out this website for a LOT more info on optics that are suitable for both CQB and intermediate ranges.

I had one VERY briefly (wife found out how much I paid for it ) and I will definitely have to get another. Not needing batteries to illuminate the reticle was SUCH a bonus it had me wanting to replace all my EOTechs with TriPowers (I got over it)

EOTechs are great, (I have two) but I don't think it's what you need on your rifle.

Thanks for the info guys.

I'm glad whoever decided to move my thread left a link
to it.
I couldn't decide which area to put it in since there isn't a
section for just optics.

I would never have guessed it wound up here, since I'm
talking about an HK-91 ,and this section states
"For Your AR " .

An optics section in the Armory might be a good idea.

Still ,I'll look in this section for my info for now.

I would say model 552.

I have both the 551 and 552 and they are top-notch and durable.
Some day they will maybe have a thermal imaging one, where I can switch from white-hot mode to black-hot mode like I did in the Army w/ M1 TTS sights. Ha. Ha.
