Same price, both available, which do you choose?

1.) Rock River Entry Model with "chrome moly" barrel

or

2.) Bush master Patrolman's Carbine w/chrome lined barrel

Bushmaster

Both are very nice and worthy.

I was considering the same two rifles when I was looking to buy,
and I went with the Bushmaster.   Very happy with it so far....
I have about 900 rounds through it - zero malfunctions.

If you go with a rock river, just make sure you pay the extra money
to get one with a chrome-lined barrel.

Bushmaster. Especially since they are the same price.

When I was buying my first AR-15 I had to choose between those two and I went with the Bushmaster.

If you want a heavy barrel, go RRA.
If you want a M4 profile 16" barrel, go with the Bushmaster.

I would have to go with the BM for all the reasons mentioned above.

Bushmaster, because you get chromed lined and the barrel is 4150 steel, instead of the 4140 that RRA uses.

That said, RRA is still a good rifle.

+1 for the type of steel.  Bushmaster barrels will last longer on average.  I also think the smaller gas port im proves accuracy and prevents large ammounts of debris entering the chamber.  BTW,  how much are you paying?

You can get chrome lined RRA barrels, it is like a $30 option.
However my biggest complaint is that you can get any contour RRA wilson barrel you want, so long as it is a heavy-barrel profile. Their "R4" profile simply has a cut for the 203 nade launcher, but retains the Heavy-profile under the handguards.

The whole point behind a Patrolman's Carbine is to have a lightweight duty carbine to carry around all day. The 16" M4 profile barrel is neat because you have the flexibility of swapping FS's w/o cutting the soldered/pinned flash suppressor from a non-SBR'd 14.5" M4 barrel.

I wouldn't be able to see the difference between 4150 and 4140 steel. The most important aspect would have to be the profile of the barrel you want. Everything else is essentially equal.

I also would say Bushmaster. I have 1 like your describing and 1 also same w/ H BAR. Both are great.

My vote would be for the BFI Patrolman's carbine.  Course it's easy for me to say that as the Patrolman's configuration is the majority of my AR collection...

By buying  complete upper from RRA, you have also essenitally mated that barrel to that upper. This can be attributed to the dremelled feed ramps that will not match up to any other upper, from RRA or other makers.

It will bind you later when you want to change barrels, uppers, or get one of those newfangled Vltor monolithic uppers.

The MGI QCB system has gotten my attention
If they come out with a modular magwell that takes Glock 33rd 9mm mags, I will probably slap together another AR-15! And then buy a 7.62x39 bolt carrier group and barrel so I can shoot using my AK mags and ammo. And then the .308 setup, etc... oh my!

Well,

I got the RRA Entry yesterday......posted this because a friend is undecided between the 2 and I was curious also.

After reading the post and stopping by the FFL to get copies of his FFL for a S.E.A.K. I just got off redwhiskey on EE....I did it!  It all started by, "hey, do you still have the patrolman's Carbine in stock?"  "Can I see it?"  10 minutes later.....I am a proud owner of the Bushy!!!!  I'll put some pics of it up tonight.  Continuing the arf.com style.....when in doubt get both!!

Here is a pic of my RRA for now.

Sweet rifles!

Quick question: Can your RRA detach carry handle rear elevation wheel turn from 6/3 up to 6/3 again?
