Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Early SP1 Upper question

I'm looking at an SP1 in the 54,000 range (1978). The guy who has it doesn't have a clue about ARs and has been sending me pictures. Everything looks okay except the only marking on the upper is a very small letter C inside a small box. Has anyone seen this before?

The leter C inside the box is a Colt symbol. My CAR clone slick side upper has this stamp as well.

That one was made in 75. I think that is right around the time they started putting the C and M   or C and H under the windage drum. Yours might  or might not have this.
