Which would you put on top of 14.5 M4A3, EOTech 551 or  ta31f?

I would like to have something to use when things go bump in the night, but also shoot out to 200 yards.

I know the  TA31F has 4x mag, but there are plenty of other factors I am having a hard time weighing.

My hope is to trade out a Sig for some optics if that give you all an idea of my budget.

I think you're going to have a hard time with a 4x magnified optic at ranges closer than 50 yards.  Especially indoors, in the dark. Or do you mean you're hunting bad guys at night outdoors?

There is a huge cost difference between the two.  Unless you have an extremely compelling need for magnification, I would get the EOTech.  I think you will love it, but if it doesn't work out for some reason you can always sell it on the EE or eBay and get the ACOG.  That makes it a pretty low-risk proposition.

Two different tools for two different jobs.

Most people will argue that you can use an EoTech out to 200~ yards just fine without magnification. If I was in the middle east, I'd prefer an Acog for the varying ranges, but for "bump in the night" stuff, an EOTech would be my choice

Thanks for all of the info guys.

I guess I'm just dreaming about a scope that does both jobs.

EOtech it is, now to figure out which one.

Check out the following website, there are regular organized Colorado shoots and someone there is likely to have one or both optics for you to fondle and test fire a weapon with it mounted.

Save your pennies and look into an Elcan Spectre DR or some other variable 1x4 optic
