Has anyone ever tried this?
I used to dye plastic parts different color, by submerging them in hot Ritt Dye, for a while.
Patterns can be cut out of electricians tape, and applied to the stock.
You could also paint a camo pattern with melted wax, and then remove with heat.

Start with a green stock, apply taped pattern, dye brown, apply more tape, dye black.

I might try it.

I have nothing constructive to add to this conversation, sorry.

I'd like to hear your results If you do try it. I myself am skeptical that the dye will penetrate properly, but of course, I know nothing about the process.

I've dyed lacrosse sticks with Ritt Dye, and the dye penetrated and lasted.

Are Lacross sticks wood or plastic?

I can see it working with wood but not synthetics.  Have you tried dying the black plastic lighter colors (like tan)?

I could donate something as a test item.

They are plastic. I've dyed them, and it lasts.
No, you can't dye a dark color light.
You have to start with the light.

The modern Lacroose heads are made with molded plastic.

We use the same thing with our Lacrosse heads  down here.  The dye seems to really soak in a do a real good job.  The kids I coach like to die the heads in the school colors of green and black.  Tiger style seems to be the most popular.  Now that I think of it, it looks like camo.
I think you should go for it and post pictures.

Good Luck
