I have a DPMS M-4 upper, & the spring for the dust cover has somehow slipped out from behind the cover, & now there is no tension on the dust cover after the 1st shot. Is there an easy way to fix it? I dont want to take the barrel off to make such a simple repair, but I don't know how to get the rod for the dust cover out. Thank's

Sorry, but the barrel needs to be remove in order to reload the cover rod and spring. If the upper was built up by DPMS, just give them a call and let them know of the problem.

I have dealt with the guys @ DPMS over the years, and trust me, they will take care of the problem, and maybe even comp you are part to cover the shipping charge to get the rifle back to them, Just don't forget to ask.

P.S. A new NM front post would be my comp of choice, since you will only need to send the upper back, and would be about the same price.  If your really nice, they may even put it on for you.

Thanks for the info Dano. I to have delt with the guys at DPMS & I agree the are good to deal with. I bought my first kit by going to their shop, & numerous parts since, but that was when I lived in Wisconson, & now I'm in Texas. They replaced my titainium bolt after it broke in 1/2. I'm not sure but the spring might have come out when the bolt broke. The bolt was sticking out of the ejection port,  but I didnt notice the dust cover spring untill a few weaks later after I had already called them about the bolt. Makes sense though, the bolt could have easily pushed the rod away from the reciever enough to let the spring tip slip out.
