Does any one have photos of damaged stuff by an AR? such as: steel plates, wood, just anything.  I would also like to compare damage done to steel plates at certain distances.

Please specify distance, what it is, rifle and ammo used.

Just some random thing to look at I guess.

Thanks.

Target: 5 gallon Kerosene cans.
Distance: 100-150m.
Weapon: Franken M4gery
Ammo: Winchester White Box Made in Israel.

Tip: One of these cans was not shot by the above weapon. Can you guess which can?

I've been wondering what .225/5.56mm would do to a spinner. Guess it would be a bad idea to get one for my AR by the looks of it. Maybe you should have bought the new T-1000 liquid metal version. It would healed those right up.

There are spinners available made to take the abuse of a high velocity 223/5.56 round. You can find them HERE

The handloaded round I used on this tank was a little on the warm side so I won't give the specifics about it.  Works pretty well though eh?

What max distance would you say a 5.56 round would go through a 1" thick plate of steel?

Nice pics guys.

What max distance would you say a 5.56 round would go through a 1" thick plate of steel?

I do not think 5.56 will penetrate 1" plate.  The Birchwood Casey spinner is 3/8" plate.  I could not get penetration @180-190yds with M855 penetrator.  Michael_aos could not get penetration @100yds with 55gr FMJ out of a 20" bbl.  I would not want to shoot at steel targets under 100yds with a high powered rifle.  Also other factors would effect how a bullet would penetrate a steel plate example; type of steel, thickness, hardness, distance, velocity/weight of the bullet and also the angle of the plate.  If the plate is at an angle it will be much harder to penetrate the steel, that is why tanks have sloped armor.  There are others who could add to this.
Hope this helped
Matt

I am just curious really.  Just wanted to know how powerful .223 is.  And it is also fun to look at stuff that is screwed up by an AR!!!!

I agree...this is a cool thread indeed!  Me and my bud have a Saturday in the very near future where we are gonna go out into the great wide open and destroy all kinds of fun things.  I have a nice big log that I would like to drill a hole through say after 400 rounds or so.

I figure watermelons are a must...they are cheap around here.Any other suggestions on stuff that is fun to shoot?

Here's a little damage.

Ground squirrel,

Winchester 45gr JHP Walmart Value pack.
Used 16" AR-15 with CAV lower hand model 1 chromoly barrel.

Now you see him.....Now you don't.

If I can get it right I'll post the video.

Beautiful.  UltraReef, I would try shooting Milk cartons with water, AOL CDS!!!!!!! (those are really easy to find, walk into wal-mart and grab about 100), try shaking pop cans as much as you can then shoot them, it would be kinda fun to shoot a broken computer monitor, anything you can find.

I now have no doubts about 5.56's ability to FUBAR a target at 300 meters.  Thats impressive.

The thickest target I have ever gone thru was a 1/4" armor plate at 25yds with a S&B 55gr FMJ ball. It passed thru like butter, the shot was a 90 degree shot dead on.

One other target that I would like to ass to the "fun" list is paintballs. Give them a try at 25 yards. I have a ball blasting them with my Carbine. I will dig up pics I took of my old Jetta getting "the treatment" after I impaled a moosed with it hot

If your shooting real AR500 plate at >100 yards.....NOTHING happens.  Bullet vaporizes, end of story.

Damage is dependent on the type/grade of steel, and VELOCITY of the round.  At very close range, a .223 will do more damage than a .308.  We shoot falling plates as close as thirty yards.

The problem is that they were trying to hit the little green container on the roof.
