I'm buying a 6-9 leg notched Harris Bipod and am wondering why I might need the rotating one.  Obviously one hopes his/her shooting platform is perfectly flat.  But it may not be....

I don't know...any idears?

I would assume that for just plain target shooting, then the regular would be fine.  If you're shooting at a moving target and need to follow it, then I could assume that the rotating would be necessary.

I have the standard. It works well on all terrain. If your target is moving that fast you probably won't hit it anyway.

I liked the fixed notched version.

I'd rather own a Harris since I know it works.  All of my Harris Bipods are the "Swivel" versions.  Swivel bipods allow for correction of rifle cant.  Rotation is around the bore axis or in other words, Roll.  It is not left/right motion or in other words, Yaw. Some people here seem to think that a swivel bipod would be used to aid in engaging a moving target.  I think that's more the territory of Tripods and Pintle mounts.

Using a podlock makes it even easier to adjust for cant then lock it down.  If you are going to be shooting using a bipod, it's best to buy the model that swivels.  At long distances, cant will dramatically affect your point of impact.  Keeping the rifle level is important to accurate shooting.

Just recently installed a 9x13 on my new build, versa pods are good with moving targets.

But, like harris style bipods best.

I've got a couple Rock Mounts, they are almost identical to the Harris, except they have a thumb wheel to tighten them down.

I have both models. The fixed is best off the bench. For bench shooting I would get the shortest (BR) model. The leg notch with swivel is faster for shooting critters in the field because the swivel feature allows you to quickly level your gun without messing around with the leg adjustments.  If you go with the swivel get the pod lock knock off.
