I saw a decent AR-15 at the gunshow today and wanted to buy it but the seller swears it's a post-ban gun. He did admit that he knows very little about AR's but was sure it was post-ban. The gun was made from old parts with the short buttstock but that doesn't mean anything.

This receiver has a circular shallow cut on the left side of the lower that's about the size of a quarter. I guess it is post-ban then.

Copied from web site.

Post-ban receivers have a circle milled into the side of the magwell. They were originally bead-blasted to a non-glare finish. All others are pre-ban. (This is unverified info…) Also, they used to be NESARD. Rumored to have been owned by Dick Drasen (currently M&A Parts) and produced lowers only out of Barrington, Illinois. No complete guns were sold (again, unverified info).
