Ok, I want to have a kac triple tap perm. attached via silver solder to my LWRC BBL. I like the idea of the SS being cleaner looking and the TTB can be removed without damage later.

A reputable gunsmith warned me that the heat could damage the chrome lining.

Have any of you had, or seen, any examples of using the 1100 degree silver solder method damaging bbls?

Should I be overly concerned?

I have had a FH SSed on a Colt M4 barrel. I noticed no appreciable difference in accuracy.

But then again, I was using it on a "fighting type" rifle and only benched it once or twice. Unless you are running it in a varmint rig or SPR setup (but why go with a shorter barrel), you should be fine.

Look at it this way, you will have it welded on if you want to permanently attach it in another way, and the welding material gets much hotter than the melting point of the solder.

You should have asked him how hot that chrome gets when a bullet goes scooting down it.

Can TTBs be silver soldered?
I thought inconel was a bitch to work with?

If it's TIG welded the heat is so concentrated you'll have no discoloration and little heat transfer

Isn't that just because it was reparked after it was SSed and the park solution couldn't be cleaned out.

My understand is that this condition is not a result of the soldering but of the re-park done afterwards.

The SS wont damage the barrel if done right, but every one I've done has discolored the muzzle device to a small degree.  I prefer the pin/weld method just for its visibility.
