Of the models they offer, what is the concensus on which is best?

I like the efficientcy of the 24" barrel, but stainless?  I like the looks and flash suppressor of the AP4, but wonder about the benefit of a 16" barrel with a .308 round, when I have a AR15 M4 rifle?  How much of an effect does the short barrel have on the .308 round?

The 24" stainless barreled model is best, but I just wonder if others find it to long/big and overbearing, and compromise barrel length and get the AP4 16" etc?

voted for the 18" bull for the best all around rifle, with the a3 upper and rifle tube though.  the 24" is great for a target rifle, or if you dont mind a heavy/long rifle.

I agree with you.  They are all a compromise, you have to just pic what you want, and in your case the 18" BB works.

I voted for the 18' as well. I only own one of these type rifles in .308. I think the 18" offers the best all around package. It's a little heavy with the bull barrel but I'm sure it's lighter than the 24". I looked at the HK91 and that also uses a 18" barrel. I figured someone at H&K must have thought this was a good legnth too. This thing is accurate too.

I've had the 24" and the AP4 16" DPMS. Hands down the AP4. Both where fine weapons but I love the AP4. I also ave a buddy that has DPMSs 18" its super nice too, BUT the lite AP4 is so much fun and is a great rifle and does everything I want it to out to 300 yrds, no problem.
Go with it or the, you want be disappointed.

Surprisingly lite. Kicks more than the 223/5.56 but less than a Fal or HK91/G3. The 16" AP4 is actually very easy to hold on target during rapid fire. Again its no 223/5.56. I was really pleased when I shot it. The buffer and spring really does its job well. Makes me almost forget my 223s. Which I thought was impossible. I've had the 24" and now the AP4 16". If all your going to be doing is long range bench shooting the 24" is a dream, but tote that beast around for a few hrs and you'll hate it. 15 lbs by the time you ring and scope it, worse than the weight is it gets in the way, its just to long for an easy carry. Now the 8 1/2 lb AP4 is great 300 yrd is still no problem and I do alot of hiking in some old strip mines and you hardly know its there. So if you plan on toting it for a long time and are under 6'3" definantly get the AP4, but either way I'm sure you'll be happy with the DPMS.
