I was looking at the DPMS line of AR's and saw their Sweet Sixteen AR. It's got a 16" SS Bull Barrel w/ flat top upper and a free floating forarm. I saw them for sale at impact guns for around $780.

Anyone own one of these? Are they a good quality gun? I'm getting ready to buy my first AR and this one really sparked my interest.

Thanks for the help.

I have a 16in DPMS heavy barrel flat top and a Colt M-4. DPMS has not had a lot of rounds down the tube, but shoots nice and has been 100% so far. Will shoot it tomorrow in match at Tiger Valley. Go for it.

How does the "fit & finish" on your DPMS compare to your Colt? Can you post some pics?

Thanks

A DPMS sweet sixteen was my first AR15. I got it for LEO work and it could out shoot me any day of the week. It was very accurate. I took our department's carbine class with it and I out shot everyone but one of the SWAT guys and we got the same scores. I am not the best shooter so what I said was not meant to sound like I was bragging on me ( the gun, yes, me, no). I say get one. As far as fit and finish, I think DPMS ranks up there with all the other big name brands. But I am sure the DPMS haters will have something else to say. I currently own 2 Rock River Arms AR15's and they look no better than the DPMS versions I have seen.

Does anyone know if the DPMS Sweet Sixteen has a cast or forged upper? I can't seem to find any info on them.

Thanks

I believe they use forged uppers and lowers now. I think they discontinued the cast parts a while back. I dont know if the uppers were ever cast.

All of DPMS's receivers are now forged.

I have had a DPMS Sweet 16 for three years. 2K rounds through it and 500 of that was Wolf. No problems yet

Here's mine:

If I do my part, with good handloads, it will do 3/8 inch groups.

How you gonna beat it?

For imq707s, in my opinion, my DPMS fit and finish is equal to or better than my Colt, mind you I've had the Colt since 87.By the way, the DPMS ran flawless in match today, aaprox 150-200 rds in match.
