I have had this gun on order with Impact Guns for almost 7 weeks now and I'm wondering if anyone else has had a long wait in obtaining one of these rifles?

Also, what do you have to say about it, good or bad?

Thanks

Mine took about 8 weeks from R&R Arms.  I've only had a chance to shoot it once.  About 35 break in rounds at 100 yards.  Sub MOA groups right from the start.  One 1/2 MOA group of 5 rounds.  No malfunctions, period.  I used Federal Gold Match in 168 grain, and Remington Match in 168, also.  Once I get 100 rounds through it, I'll move up to 500 yards, and eventually try the 1000 yard range.  My only complaint is that the trigger was way rough. Of course, it's brand new, but I think a 2 stage trigger is a necessity for long range shooting.  I have the 24" bull barrel.

I would try around some other dealers.
I do not think Impact stocks much of them.
Kieslers is the larget dealer for them.

I had a 5 month wait, but that was for a somewhat customized rifle.  The explanation was that they "got a bad batch of barrels."  I am going to shoot mine for the first time tomorrow baring any Rita action here in Dallas.

I've put about 200 rounds through mine and already encountered a problem. My gas block came loose and turned my $1000 semi-auto into a fancy looking bolt action.

I had to manually cycle each round while trying to figure out what was wrong. My gunsmith has since fixed it and I'll be testing it tomoorw. A relatively small problem, but I expect more from a rifle that costs that much money.

When working properly, I was able to shoot 1/2 MOA pretty easily. I have the 24" bull barrel.

I agree with the above post about the trigger, it was WAY rough for a precision rifle. I had my smith do some grinding on it and now it's fine.

Functionality, with the exception of the gas block problem, has been great. No double feeds or stove pipes with any type of ammo. It's built very well and feels like a real quality firearm.

All in all, I'd say I'm happy with it. As long as the gas block doesn't become a re-accuring problem, I'll be shooting this rifle with my grandkids. ( I'm 30 now)

Got mine in 5 days from CMMG...but that was a while ago

Great rifle, but very front heavy.

I just got my barrel cut to 20" and fluted...makes a world of difference to the feel of the gun.  Haven't shot it yet since I got it back, though.

These guns shoot better than most tactical bolt rifles.
I am putting together a 24" fluted chromoly barrel like the one Jerry uses.

DPMS will also sell you one w/his break, but if you can acuire one through clarks... however I recomend having clarks install it. Here's a pic:

Finally I got my hands on it! My FFL dealer shot me and email yesterday to pick it up and I did.  My first impression is that it is an AR with some beef to ithock.gif.  The fit and finish look alright, but the real test will be when I get it to the range, which cannot happen until I get a scope for it.

I really want a good scope for this $1000 riflehile
One question:  Are any mags interchangable with the LR308?  They included 2 metal 20 rounders with the rifle and a cleaning kit and a useless sling that doesn't have a swivel to attach to.  If this rifle will shoot sub MOA groups with my reloads, it will have been worth the almost 2 month wait.

i recently picked up a 24in fluted stainless dpms lr-308 at the gunshow here in pensacola, fla. very nice fit anf finish. have added a rra 2-stage match trigger and it made it wonderful except for one problem, my front gas block is loose as a goose and it lets to much gas escape around it to cycle the bolt all the way back to be able to strip the next round. the block has side to side and front to rear movement. it also doesn't go far enough back to lock open after last round. all works properly on manual manipulation of bolt with charging handle. rifle only has a couple hundred rounds through it. you can feel each round is different as it goes off according to where the block is positioned and its getting worse, any suggestions

Best thing to do is call DPMS, and they will work on it for free..

It just cost me 12 bucks from Texas with 700 insurence / shipping for the upper.

You only need to send the upper, ask for Shane he will take care of it.

Turn around is about 2 weeks.

I do have a RRA two stage and it make a big difference. Its a great rifle.

John

Two Stage trigger...smooooooth

Millette Gold series 6x62x55 with Leupold high rise rings.

put a call into DPMS and talked to shane, my first one of these bull bbl 308's, he said to check the 2 set screws on the bottom of the gas block. sure as shooting they were both really loose and letting the gas block move around and shut off some of the spent gases to the gas tube, she now runs like a new sewing machine and the groups should be even better now that the recoil will be the same on each shot and not changing. really like this rifle it's the best. it'll shoot with my savage bull bbl in 308 and my remingtom vls in 223. not bad for an autoloader to shoot with and beyond high quality bolt rifles. my hats off to DPMS and their great staff.

Ok, where in the DFW area are you guys finding these DPMS rifles.  I've been looking for an LR308 without any luck.  Tried CTD, but the price quoted was not even in this universe.

My 24" LR-308 took quite a while ( 3.5 months) to get through Impact Guns. The price was good at $825.   I will never do business there again.  There website is very deceptive regarding what is in stock and lead times on items not in stock.  On the brighter side, I shot my first sub-MOA group with my Panther yesterday using TTI Moly coated 168gr Amax rounds.  After 205 rounds the gun is finally broke in.

The first thing that I recommend doing to your Panther 308 is changing the trigger and hammer to a JP-Rifles speed hammer and single stage trigger system.  Otherwise, great rifle out of the box.

Weapon Setup:
DPMS LR-308 24" barrel
JP Single Stage Match Trigger & Speed Hammer
IOR Valdada 4-14x50 Illum Scope
IOR Valdada  High Rings

That is along wait even for IMPACT. Knight SR mags are interchangable (same mags as DPMS uses ?) - however DPMS mags are available so why bother ? Rifles are nice - IMO BAR10's and AR10's are better finished but mucho more dinero for base price rifle.
