Do they make a light weight, gov. style, chromlined barrel for the carbine?  Or any chromelining for that matter?

I am trying to find the most reliable AR10 style rifle.

No chrome lining from DPMS that I am aware of, but you can use an Armalite barrel.
As for the weight, I can re-profile any barrel into a lightweight setup for you.

Armalite barrels work?  As I am sure you have noticed I am new to the 308 AR scene and am trying to gather as much info as possible so I can make the most appropriate decision.

Can one purchase Armalite barrels individually, meaning as a part not a whole rifle?

ETA: Do you do coatings as well, i.e. Duracoat, ect?

Can I use an entire AR10 upper on a DPMS lower?  I'd love to have a 20" infantry model LAR308.  I like the DPMS lower better since I already have a boatload of old model AR10 'waffle' mags.

Here is my AP4, with an Armalite chrome lined carbine barrel installed.  My only complaint is that I've not found the Armalite barrels to be very accurate.  I had a factory AR-10A4 Carbine, and it was about a 4-5 MOA gun with surplus ammo.  My AP4 does about the same.  With hand loads, it will do 1.5 MOA or so.

just keep in mind that your only going to get soo much out of a lightweight barrel profill.

I would assume that you will start to see groups opening up after a mag. but hey, for a light weight 308 surplus plinker, 3-4 MOA isnt horrible

I realize this.  The reason I wanted to go with the chrome lined barrel, was for a knock around field gun.  That I could shoot surplus ammo thru, and not worry as much about maintenance.  With the DPMS, I can use my SR-25 magazines.  That's the main reason I sold my Armalite, and picked up the AP4.

With SA surplus, this thing shoots more like a shotgun, than a rifle.  It shoots much better with aussie, and even better yet with my hand loads.

I just wish it would group better with the milsurp ammo.  I've read that some are getting good groups with SA, out of factory Armalites.  But my factory built AR-10A4 carbine, wouldnt group worth a shit with any surplus either.  My FAL Para shot much better than this gun, or my AR-10.

It's still a work in progress, and only a "play" gun,

I haven't had good luck with DPMS and their no name barrels.  As blasters they may be ok but as a sniper/countersniper they're junk.  I just pitched their 24" stainless long range target  barrel in the trash and installed a kreiger  mid weight .950-.850 18"  with only 3 loads tried so far It's shooting .65 moa. with 168 matchkings.

If you still have that barrel, I would be interested in buying it from you.

youd be surprised at the size of the groups many here are getting with their standard wilson barrels.  whats the twist of your krieger?

The barrel is in Colorado  I'll pick it up on the next trip.
DPMS says their barrels are "production" barrels and some may shoot .25 moa and others may not. I called and asked the owner who makes the barrels and he said he would not disclose the manufacturer.  Someone said they are Wilson. Where does this info come from?
The barrel I had was cleaned after every shot till 50 then every 5 till 100.  I did it right but still could not get better than 1-1.25 moa consistently.  I purchased the rifle through R guns because the sass was 40-50 weeks out. I was way to heavy for my application but it was the cheapest way for  to get a 308 upper. I knew I was going to rebarrel in an 18 or 20" mid weight.  But I wanted to test it just to see what I could get. Kriegers 1in 12 twist

i didnt get good groups with nosler 168gr bullets in the 1/10".  175gr and 180gr matchkings are much better.  not surprising the 1/12" likes the 168gr.  barrelmakers mark their barrels, and many knowledgable builders frequent this site.
