My FFL was telling me about some .223 ammo made in Czech. which has steel in the head.  He says its bad for the barrel.  Any thoughts on this?

As long as it's copper jacketed, it should be fine.
Lake City has a steel core as well, and it's drooled over in these parts.
S&B pistol ammo has been fine in my handguns.

Didn't the Swiss 5.56mm  (GP90 IIRC) imported a few years back have a steel clad projectile? I have fired tens of thousands of rounds of steel jacketed foreign surplus from several different kinds of weapons and have not noticed any accelerated bore erosion, but then again these are minute of rock weapons....
