Hello folks.

When you look at the standard rifle handguards of AR15, you will see the rear holes where your hands go are blocked. I understand that you do this to prevent your hand from burns but why do they block holes even in upper heat sheilds?

I was going to purchase M5 RAS just because I want better air flow but before that I wanted to try making holes in upper heat sheild so it would yeild better ventilation. Has anyone done this?

It will increase mirage distortions in your sight picture.  They are closed for a reason.

That seems reasonable.

Seems like M5 RAS is the only way to go then.
