I've got a few 80% lowers on order and I'm itching to put together a pistol.

Everywhere seems to be out of pistol uppers. If I can find a carbine upper could I cut it down to around 11" and still use a carbine length gas system?

From what I've read in old posts 7" runs a "pistol" length gas and 10.5" runs "carbine" length. Correct?

Here's a little photoshop work I did as inspiration. A baby version of my Mock Dissipator.

Yes, but it will need the gas port opened up.

Is that a "trial & error" thing or has someone figured out the best size?

I've got a 10.5 that eats anything using a .071 port.

Port sizes for a 10.3-10.5" barrel range from .070-.093" depending on the manufacturer. Most seem to be between .073-.089.

I had Adco take care of mine and trusted their judgement.
