I think I've seen it done before. How does it work? I'm thinking about buying a cheap (probably chicom) carry handle, then cutting it so I only have the rear sight and one thumb nut, then mounting it behind my red dot.

Use a hack saw and just cut it. You can figure it out.

Here’s mine. If you take your time you can get good results that rival the LMT BUIS. I removed the thumb nut and modified mine with an AN ¼” aircraft nut.
