The only purpose these washers serve is to provide the correct timing for your FS.
Crush washers are easier to use. Peel washers are kind of a trail and error thing. Neither have anything to do with the actual performance of the weapon. Remember to stay within (or near) torque specs. |

Peel washers are usually used for muzzle devices such as brakes and A2 flash hiders that need to be timed because they're more "adjustible". Lock or crush washers leave less room for adjustment and are often used for devices that do not need to be timed such as A1 flash hiders, Phantoms, and Vortexes.
Peel washers are softer and made of aluminum. Lock washers are steel. |

You can always use loctite,like some service rifle shooters.Some barrels are so overtorqued it will affect accuracy.

The peel washer is no longer being put into the US military supply system as it takes too much trial and error to get the timing correct. It was replaced by the crush washer for this reason. These are one-time-use items.
Non timed muzzle devices use neither, they use a lock washer. Proper torque is required on all devices to keep them on the muzzle. -- Chuck |
