I own a "Post-ban" 20inch barrel Colt match target that I want to convert to a lighter, more agile
"pre-ban" configuration. Any suggestions regarding an upper , i.e., which manufacturer. I have heard rumor that because it is a Post-ban Colt Match Target, not all uppers will fit without modifications. I am inclined to go with a 16 inch barrel, but should it be chrome lined, and does it have to be from Colt. Are there less costly, yet still quality based alternatives. Since I live in CA.
and yes it is Ca registered AW. this will be my one and only chance

Are the lower and upper that you currently have "large pin"? If so, you will need either another large pin upper, or a small to large adapter pin. You could also keep the same upper and just swap out the 20" barrel with the 16" barrel of your choice.

It is the question of choice that is confusing. With so many different manufactures, which one would be a good pick

LMT M4 16" barreled upper or Bushmaster which has several 16" barreled configurations.
