I just bought one, but are they the standard threading like the A2 & A1 FS's? Second whats this I hear about them making a pinging noise when you shoot?

They are standard threads, 1/2 x 28. They make a ringing noise when fired, it isn't a big deal.

Damn, I didn't hear about the ringing, but the first time I shot the re-barrelled upper (w/vortex type FS), I heard a distinct ringing. I was the only one at the range. I just thought I didn't have my earplugs in all the way, and I was having too much fun to adjust them, but I bet it was the FS.

I've neverr heard it at the range because I've got hearing protetion on, but after you install the vortex lock the bolt carrier to the rear then hit the release letting it slam forward and you'll know all you need to about the ringing.

It sounds like a tuning fork. Just consider it the sound of freedom.

Dogs everywhere for miles will be cocking their heads sideways and perking their ears

The Vortex thread patterns for the M-4/M-16 are standard thread appropriate for those arms. The M249 variant has the appropriate htread relief for the SAW. Same goes for the M-240 version, BTW. As to the "pinging" noise, frankly, I've never noticed it in many thousands of rounds fired in both semi and FA and in bbl lengths from 9.5" to 20". then again, that's probably why I don't hear of all things...pinging.

It rings if you bump it into something too.
