Well, got bad news today...The Colt 6920 I ordered at the beginning of the month (which was backordered and expected to be in the end of the month or beginning of April) is now not coming. The distributor I had the order with called a little while ago and said that they were informed by colt that they would not be getting shipments out until the end of summer
I just about shed a tear on that one.. SO, do I: A- Keep the order and just wait (good things come to those who wait right) - Would make it an awfullly long summer without an AR. ~OR~ B- Call up Pete at Legal Transfers and order an RRA Entry TAC... Dilemas, Dilemas, and before somebody chimes in with the "keep your order and order an RRA as an appetizer while you wait for the colt to arrive, that way you have both"...thats not an option finanically, or THAT'S WHAT I'D DO.. |
Not being much of a brand snob I'd go with what's going to make you a happy shooter this summer..
Dump the order and get the RRA. |
I'd agree, but I thought those were backordered as well? Perhaps the wait is just a few weeks, however. |
Go to a gunshow buy a Rock River, my BIL jiust bought the exact rifle you are talking about at the last gunshow we went to $889 plus a little for tax, and he got a really good looking rifle. No range report yet though
Screw that! Do not go the summer without an AR waiting on Colt.
Danny has Bravo Co uppers available. They are Paul's barrels with all the same whiz bang magical tests that Colt uses with CMT upper receivers. Then buy a lower, Bushmaster lower parts kit and a collapsible stock directly from Bravo Co and put it together yourself. I have a Bravo Co barrel sitting on my desk as I type this, by the way. I cannot believe you guys have not gobbled up all these barrels. |
I got my NIB RRA upper from a fellow AR15.commer in the EE. The lower I got off gunbroker for $105 shipped. |
Its not worth the wait just for a "Name" IMO
Get the RRA or if that doesn't work get a Bushmaster or an Armalite |
Sounds like a good plan to me. |
SSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! What are you doing? Don't let this secret out or these gear whores will buy them all up and there won't be any left for us Damn penguins... |
I knew about them before Grant did. I was surprised that the majority of these barrels were not sold to Arfkom members. These barrels are THE BEST value on the market today. |
Ugh...I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your BIL should have checked prices before hand. He Could have got- Entry Tac WITH chrome barrel, WITH RRA Dominator Eotech mount + Hard case for...well less than what he paid at the funshow Sorry, dont hate me (or tell the BIL) Let him be happy with his purchase.. DK Prof- you are correct Sir. The RRA's are on backorder too. Pete said I was looking at about 5 weeks for the Chrome lined, and 4 for a chrome molly.... I'm still debating, but I must say I'm starting to lean a little more towards the RRA... Not doing anything with Bushmaster-You may have caught a few of my rant posts last year with my BM dilemma-Long story short-I got one of the lemons (overtorqued FSB/barrel) it was sent back 4 times before I finally got my $$ back. Wasn't impressed with the CS. They said what I wanted to hear on the phone and made me happy verbally, but they didn't follow through ETA- I'm still pretty green when it comes to the AR & AK scene so for my first ones, i plan on buying factory complete rifles...THEN, i plan to start dilly dallying with building my own AR, and getting some AK parts kits too...Agh...Damn this site!!! |
DENNY, I meant Denny, not Danny. I need to proof read this stuff before I hit "submit."
I don't care why the arfcomers didn't buy them, that means more for me! And yes, they are the best value on the market |
Get a hold of tina at saw they have them great people to deal with!!!
+a billion Screw colt, give your cash to someone who cares about your business and the rights of the common citizen. Paul is a top notch guy and if you have any problems he will do his best to make it right. |

For the record//This is not meant to be a Colt -vs- everything else thread. God knows we see way too many of those hear as it is so I don't even want to go that direction...
Does anybody know what is up with Colt production. I have heard 3 reasons now as to why Colt is not shipping until end of summer. 1-They are producing large military contract orders at this time. 2-Has to do with Colt's buyout to so and so dynamics 3-They are gearing up production for their new LE line of Piston operated systems I called another distributer and they were told the same thing on shipment dates on the colts as well. I'm sure other dealers have them, but probably not at the price I was paying. If they can do $1043, then we'll talk, but I'm not paying 1300 for the coolaid. And after talking with Pete (granted he is an RRA dealer) he had really good things to say about RockRiver, and was really informative... |
I'm not bashing Colt, I own some Colts. I'm just saying that I would not put off buying an AR because a Colt was not going to be available for a long period of time.
Wait for the Colt, keep your money there with the dealer, then order a U.S. Property lower from Pete and build a RRA M4 from parts while you wait on your Colt. I have both and can't choose which one I like more. The Colt will always have the resale value and not too many guys have a LEO Colt 6920. You'll be glad you waited.

honestly man, I would never buy a Colt over an RRA, even if there was no wait time on either. I disagree with Colt's politics, and I won't spend $500 more for a rifle that is *very* questionably a tad more reliable, and that likely will look like total crap, with tool marks or an uneven finish. Now throw in the fact that you have to wait all summer.....screw the Colt. They are good rifles, despite some of the issues I have with them, but not so much better that you should wait all summer for one. Get an RRA; I've never talked to an RRA owner that has been unhappy. |
Aimless- oh, I knew you werent...I just started to get a feeling with the "brand name", colt company ethics, etc etc, I just didn't want the thread to go downhill, and then it's a bitch session back and forth between Colt/everything else, thats all...
I wish I were more experienced with the build your own process.. I know it's probably not that difficult, but for my "first time", i want it to be special (factory build) |
Get a gun list and look in there. I know of 2 dealers that have them in there. Both in TX but you could just have one sent to your FFL. Try Police Supply, Gundealer3 in FL.
Me too. Screw the wait. Build up a nice rifle and you'll be happy. |
Colt is a great product, but if you want an AR right NOW that is every bit as good a Colt you can have it, and save about 200 bucks in the process. You can even have the satisfaction of putting it together with your own two hands, which IMO makes it even more special. As for it being hard, I think a trained monkey could put together a lower. If you want a factory gun thats fine, but realise you have the rest of your life to buy a Colt. But if you dont want to spend all summer wishing you were shooting that AR, then build it! |
Unless you want to pay the SBR monies to the govt you might as well get a 1 1/2 longer BBL and a bit more velocity over a 5.5 long flashhider to stay within feferal law. Guess I bought mine when the buying was good. |
1. If you want a Colt 6920 then look around. I'd be willing to bet there are dealers who have them in stock at a decent price or buy a slightly used one off of the EE.
2. If you decide against, or can't find, a Colt but insist on getting a complete factory built AR, My second choice would be a BM. RRA would come in no higher then 4th at best on my list of factory built AR's. 3. If you are not hung up on getting a factory built AR and want the best AR for your money then build your own lower using which ever lower floats your boat, a CMT, RRA, J&T or BM LPK what what ever stock you want then get a Bravo Company complete upper. an SDI upper would also be a good choice or possibly an LMT or CMMG. |
Show me where they are actually selling just barrels and I will buy a few. The only ones I have seen so far are the $230 completely stripped ones. It looked to me that they were not selling complete barrels because they wanted to force people to buy their complete/stripped uppers. I am not willing to pay $400 for one of his barreled uppers. That means I am paying $305 for a barrel of his (the CMT flattop uppers cost $95). Plus I have to add handguards which adds another $20 to the equation. Thats a complete barrel with handguards for $325 which is approaching Colt price range for brand new barrels. Why buy "like" a Colt when I can buy the Colt for the same price. A very shitty deal in my opinion. |
Go to Century's website and search AR15 barrel and you will see stainless barrels with threaded muzzles and the extensions attached for less than $100. |
I was in Clyde Armory about 2 weeks ago, and they have plenty of 6920's. You can't beat their price or service.
I was referring to the BCM barrels. |
I have both and I like both. The RRA is an excellent rifle and quality wise, you would not regret it. The question is, which do you want? If you will regret not having the Colt, then you should buy a Colt. Sort of like wanting a Rolex but buying a Breitling instead.
Keep your order so you'll eventually get the best, then build a mutt for the summer.
IMHO, Scott |
If you really want a Colt wait. I have one and love it. However if you don’t have to have a Colt, the RRA is an awesome choice. I have three and think they are excellent weapons. For my money if it’s not a Colt, it better be a RRA.

Their website classifies the LE6920 as "Inbound" and priced @ $1,200 They may well have them by now as you say. Many companies do not update their webpage as inventory sells/arrives. Nice guys, good service, fair pricing on most products |
Jeeesh, all this back and forth crap about "which one"!!!
Buy ANY one of the known brands with lots of ammo and mags. Get a good quality optic (EOTech/Aimpoint)! Learn to use the package and shoot it! The target, any kind, will never know the name of the delivery platform! Out! |
... Just purchased a never-before-fingered NIB LE6920 a few weeks ago. I don't even have the nerve to take it out of the wrapper & box! Safe queen she is.
Seems there's an option (C)
Go get a Rock River tomorrow . . . and shoot the hell out of that until your COLT comes in! Then your trigger finger will be SO IN LOVE!
Why have nothing when in a short amount of time you can have both! |
I'll bust her cherry, where in AZ do you live bro??? No sense in having something that hot and not using her. .. . . . . |
6920's for sale in the EE right now. You just might have to pay extra for instant gratifacation.

Currently there are just stripped barrels. I wish we had barrel assemblies on the shelf. (I wish I had every part that is on backorder sitting on my shelf) As we can get more product and fill existing backorders, we will also have barrel assemblies (with FSB/HG cap/brl nut). We are not trying to "force" people to do anything? We simply have to fill existing backorders of complete uppers first, and then will prioritize inventory toward the most popular choices. It comes out the same either way, when you add in a CMT upper, flash hider, gas tube and pin, delta ring assembly, sling swivel and install; it would put you in the mid $250ish for a barrel. And that is approximately where the barrel assemblies will be priced when available. thanks! |

I have a BCM upper on my LMT lower and its beautiful! |
This may be the ticket! I will be giving him a call on Tuesday when he opens back up and probably placing my order. I would have liked to have the Colt, but my instinct and everyone elses input on waiting the whole summer without an AR cannot be an option. THanks for all the input fellas (and gals ) |
