Can anybody tell me if this is normal or common?

RRA 223 upper/lower, ~180 rounds through it.   Pre-ban barrel with MB attached.  Recently swapped for an A2 FH.  Noticed blue/green corrosion on crown when looking down barrel.  (unloaded of course)

Thought the Georgia Arms ammo I shot a few months ago smelled like ammonia.  Connection?

Thanks

When iron/steel corrodes, it is reddish brown.  What you are seeing is copper, from the jackets of bullets.  This is also why when you clean your bore with Hoppe's you have green residue on the patches.

Normal, and not a problem.

A good copper cleaner/remover will take that right off.

Thanks.

Regular cleaning for copper or every 2nd or third cleaning?
