What manufacturer do you think has the best rollmark on their lower receivers?

I'm not asking for any serious reasons so please spare me the "the rollmark is only cosmetic" comments.

Also, i'm not asking about quality of the receiver itself.......and I didn't make a poll because i didn't want to narrow it down that much.

Thanks!!

I like the Colt Defense Property of US Government with the Rampant colt.

That's the one to have.

really though I don't shoot the logo so it doesn't make much of a difference other than add to asthetic enjoyment.

There's something about over a hundred years of Colt military weapons-- it's just nostalgic.

Dammit we need Winchester M16's! And they should manufacture at least one part on a machine that used to build lever actions in the 1800's! What the hell happened to Winchester?

NO, NO, NO! You are all wrong. Stag Arms Has the best roll stamp!

That works!! Are these available? I really like it!!!

And for the COLT people.....I should have seen it coming.

And yes, I agree that it is only aesthetics and it does nothing for the rifle......hence the reason I put all the disclaimers in my original posts because I knew people would chime in with all these things. Every once in a while it's nice to have a non-technical thread.

Thanks for the replys!!

I've got a Superior Arms receiver with the right side of the mag well marked "For Civilian Use Only". Unfortunatley it's not stamped into the metal, just some sort of painted on.

But since someday I'll SBR this receiver I'll have Tom Sawyer (probably) engrave the warning into the same spot when he does the other engraving.

My camera's too shitty for taking a decent picture though.

Let's see...AR parts/gun stuff or new camera...let me think about this a moment....yup....AR/gun stuff.

I wanted to buy a Noveske N4 for an SBR build. I emailed them about the availability of a SAFE/SEMI/AUTO marked lower and they don't offer them but will. I asked when and they said they didn't know. They couldn't even give a timeframe with a plus or minus on the number of months.

Oh well...

I'm thinking about this custom engraving:

I think we are talking about real lowers, not photo shopped.
Link Posted: 3/5/2006 6:37:04 AM EDT
I don't count any of the M16\M4 lowers because they are not available to most of us.

Number #1 & 2 Would have to be the Colt 6721 followed closely by the 6520 lowers. Why? They are the only lowers currently available that are actually roll marked "AR15" In the case of the 6721 it also reads "Tactical" How Uber-tactical-cool is that?

Past that I like simple rolemarks. I don't generally like text only marked lowers. They are OK but a little too plain and look like the company didn't want to take the time, money or creativity to come up with something? Still, I like plain text lowers better then lowers with goofy looking animals like deer, bears and snakes.

2 examples of lowers that look really sweat in my eyes are the Noveske lower pictured above the current RRA lowers...

Link Posted: 3/5/2006 10:34:36 AM EDT
My favorite: old-version RRA, plain text only. No frills.

Just curious.

I think the BM rollmark is one of the ugliest (Stag lowers currently hold the top spot in my book) but that is a very cool pic!

I meant top spot as in the Ugliest of all time. It's about the only lower I can think of that I would not buy simply because of how ugly the rollmark is.

I like the Noveske, the RRA, and the Colt roll marks. Just this weekend, I ordered a Noveske to join with my Sabre Defence 1/7 mid length upper.

You absolutely did, didn't you?

damn, I have got to start using my glasses

I am in the same boat. I have seen some of their stuff and it looks terrific, but I will not buy one.

Colt for all that the prancing pony represents
Noveske (for originality - Luftwaffe notwithstanding)
Grenadier looks good
KAC
Bushmaster - pretty good
and any of them with a selector that swings 180*

No offense, but that's ignorant. When you say Luftwaffe, people assume you are talking about Nazis. Just to set the record straight, the NAZI Luftwaffe used the following symbol:

The modern (Post WWII and Nazis)German Airforce uses this:

ETA: You are correct in mentioning the Novseske Iron Cross resembles the current German Airforce, I just wanted to point out that it wasn't the same thing everyone associates with the word "Luftwaffe" like NAZIs.

I thought the same until I learned what the Stag symbolized in ancient times (and why the company used the Stag as their symbol)......

...it is a symbol used for one who is unwilling to assail enemies rashly, who would rather stand his own ground than harm another wrongfully, and one who will not fight unless provoked...

Which I think is an attribute every man should have.

And since we are setting the record "straight" the luftwaffe was not part of the Nazi party. Think of it in todays terms. If you are in the Army, Air Force, Navy, or Marines...are you automatically a Republican just because the president and controlling party of congress are republican? No.

DACE- you are correct, not every pilot in the Luftwaffe in WWII was a NAZI but I'd probably bet 95% were at heart and had the same beliefs, no?

Yes, NAZI was a political party and I wasn't trying to say all Luftwaffe pilots were in the NAZI party- I was trying to explain that:

A. The noveske Iron Cross is what the modern Luftwaffe uses,
B. The NAZI Luftwaffe used a different cross, like the RED CROSS uses,
C. That even if you know the difference, associating a company's name and logo with a strong word such as "Luftwaffe" might have consequences in other people's eyes if they don't know the difference.

I totally agree. Call me a Kool-aide drinker, but I think that Colt has the nicest rollmarks, with the Gov't Carbine being the nicest of the title-I guns. I'd really love a semi Colt that had M16A2/M4 stamped on the lower, other than the 6921 and 6933 which have M4-LE stampings).
