I have to ask a stupid question.  Is that Mattel M16A1 in your picture gallery a doctored picture, or is it real?  When I joined the Army my Drill Sergeant told us that Mattel made M16's at one point, but I always thought he was just messing with us.

If it's a real one, I am curious how much that would be worth.

Mattel did make an M16 in the 60's.  It didn't fire anything though.  It had a "ratchet" type mechanism inside.  When you pulled the trigger, it made a machine gun like succession of cracks.  It wasn't produced too long as the political climate made anything military related to be un-PC.  Playing "Vietman" in the backyard just wasn't fun to a lot of people.

No, it was fun.  Lotsa fun.

I had one of those toy M16's - I think it was my favorite toy as a kid (geez, never would have guessed, huh?).  At some point, everything forward of the front sight tower broke off, so I guess you could say I had a "commando" model.
