I happened to stumble upon this website, www.buffertech.com, and they have USGI M16A1 uppers for sale in three different grades. I believe they have what is called a pencil barrel. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong. What kind of accuracy can you expect out of one of these with the thinner barrel? I was thinking of picking one of these up, along with a set of A1 handguards. Are the uppers on this site new or have they been used? Anybody have experience with them? Thanks for the help.

I think those are 1:12" twist, they are perfectly accurate with light weight bullets, but you should stick with 55grain or lighter. Read the ammo oracle, I just read it myself not 5 minutes ago.

The M16A1 is accurate enough for me to qualify Expert in the ARMY for several years out to 300 meters...I have shot it just fine out to 500 meters..Then I had to turn in my Rifle and had a pistol after that. ( I cant hit shit at 300 meters with pistol)

Understand something. The rear half of the M16A2 barrel is exactly the same diameter as the early barrels. Only the front end of the barrel is heavier, and it wasn't made that way to increase accuracy. The heavier section of the A2 barrel is only to keep the barrel from being bent by bayonet use; hardly a major concern for most of us

An A1 type barrel in good shape, used with 55 grain bulleted ammo, will shoot as well as any of the later types---and is a hell of a lot more pleasant to carry around

I ordered my upper on the 6th and called on the 22nd to see why it hadn't yet arrived. They told me the order never came through the website! Sure enough, it was never charged to my credit card. But they still had "Very Good" grade uppers in stock on Friday. Mine must've been the last one out the door or something. I don't think I'm going to trust the Buffertech website for ordering from now on.

I have one of them, refinished the entire rifle, and it looks AMAZING, and shoots very very well.

Looks like I will have to look elsewhere for an M16A1 upper, it appears that buffer tech is sold out. Too bad, that was a smoking deal.

CDNN or Ky Imports has them. I ONLY buy from KY Imports in person though, too many horror stories from people buying mail order. CDNN is kinda high on their price, but not too badly out of line.

I purchased one of the Colt M16A1 uppers from Kieslers, they have an ad in Shotgun News. Mine was a complete upper, still had grease on some of the parts. It shoots excellent.

It looks like CDNN has them for $400, minus bolt and carrier, which is a bit mor than Id like to pay. Do you have a link to the uppers at Kieslers? I am having trouble finding them on their site.
