With regards to point #2, I've long felt that there seems to be a strong tendancy to choose too much light when buying a "tactical light". While there may be a few situations where being able to see well at half a mile is handy, I think the majority of us view a light-equipped carbine as a tool primarily for use in an urban environment, mostly indoors. Given this, I've felt that the Surefires may be overly bright, and in particular, see little use for the turbo heads. (For an outdoor rifle, though, they're probably fantastic.)
You might also experiment with Neal's idea of using a blue filter on your light (Surefire offers these). It should eliminate most of the problems, though it may well create new ones, by making certain things harder to identify.
