I've got a Colt Target Match Competition and the trigger pull is plenty hard. Can a gunsmith make any adjustments to this trigger to get it at around 3.5-4 lbs.? I don't want to add an aftermarket trigger unless theres no other choice.

To get it that light, with no creep and keep it all safe? I doubt it.

That is the design of the factory single stage trigger. It sucks.

Your best and safest route is to get an aftermarket trigger that can do all of the above and most importantly, be safe.

Some of the older action guys are capable of doing a good job with the standard triggers.  Colt action should be a good platform. I have seen two smiths do very nice and professional trigger jobs on AR-15's. Williams trigger specialties will do AR's. He worked the trigger on my 6400 and it is sweet. Safe[you can still see the hammer move back during trigger pull], consistant, crisp [mabie .025]and about #4. A Google search will find him.
