Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Colt side sling adapter on a BM barrel?

I recently purchased a Colt side sling adapter, indented for M4 type barrels, and am having a tough time installing it on my Bushmaster 14.5" M4 barrel. The space between the barrel and front sight seems big enough to accommodate the adapter but it just won't go through. What am I missing?

The adapter should fit any standard (not a bull barrel and not an A1 profile) barrel.  The problem is that there isn't a real standard for the size of the opening so some are tighter than others.

The curved tips of the adapter broke off.
End of story.
