For a fighting rifle, Bushmaster, as they're the only other source of chrome-lined, 4150-steel, 5.56-chambered barrels.
For a match/target rifle, an Armalite (t) upper. There's nothing at all wrong with Colt's parts quality, but the high price, low availability, and in some situations, non-standard parts sizes drives me to look elsewhere. Bushmaster parts are just as high in quality, and offer the same features and profiles, are much more available, and cost a heck of a lot less. And Bushmaster (as well as Armalite) are both owned and run by strongly pro-RKBA individuals with OUR interests in mind. Who could argue? -Troy |

They are fine, with one major (but fixable) exception, which is the CAST front sight base. I can't imagine why anyone bothered to make everything else the right way, but used cast FSBs when forged FSBs are readily available. You could replace the FSB, of course, but now you've far exceeded the cost of an equivalent BM barrel.
