Anybody know when Colt started putting "L" in front of the serial number prefix

As with the Tactical Carbines and the BDXXXXX prefix going to LBDXXXXX,

I know there were 134 that made it thru under the ban but when did they start marking them LEO or Restricted.....

Date or serial number range?

I was wondering the same thing. The Colt 6520 Gov't Carbine I just received begins with LGCxxxxx.

The "L" means Law enforcement only.

I know what the "L" means, I need to know when they started marking them that way, as with the restrictions marked on the other side

Mine is marked BD002XXX, with no restrictions on the other side

Not sure about that, best bet would be to call Colt.

I found out when it was made, Early 1995,
Colt started marking the LEO's Restricted and with the "L" prefix in late 95 to early 96

Colt started marking the LEO's Restricted and with the "L" prefix in July 1995. More specifically, the BATF required the Restricted Markings on LEO rifles manufactured on/after July 5, 1995.
