I have a 7.62x39 Colt Sporter, the 16" model, a post ban without the bayonet lug. Overall its 90% or better, though the barrel is pitted from firing corrosive ammo. It functions fine and the accuracy is good. It comes with one Colt marked 20 rounder.
Whats it worth??

If its a Sporter, I believe its a pre-ban. Some Sporters (maybe all?) don't have bayonet lugs. Mine doesn't. Post-bans are called Match Targets, not Sporters...

Thanks for taking the time to post the serial numbers. Mine is apparently a PRE-BAN model!

My original question still stands; whats it worth?? Just a ballpark figure.

Ignore all the others who might reply, I'll give you $550 right now...Yeah, I'm joking unless you do want to sell it to me at that price.

Actually, I think preban Sporters normally start at $1000 and go up from there. The lowers alone can go for $800 or more depending on configuration(raised fence, reinforced mag well, etc.) In the last few weeks, prices have seemed kinda high in Texas but I bought my Sporter Target last month for $1500 complete with the original 20" upper/A2 stock as well as a 16" carbine upper/RRA 6-pos collapsing stock, 10, G.I. spec 30 round mags and 2, 20 round G.I. spec Colt mags.

Frank-- the only reason I didn't post the value is cuz I really don't know... I would say at least $1200 since its a used pre-ban, but then barrel corrosion is another factor, plus magazines are rare (I think even rarer than my 9mm). It all depends on what you think its worth too. Ask high, see what offers you get, then decide...

New condition .223 pre-bans go for about $1600+ in some places. If you sell it, sell it as a complete pre-ban configured gun to prevetn any confusion the ATF may want to throw your way.

I do know that if you added a .223 upper (find a deal, preferably keep it a Colt), it might be worth A LOT more since its 2 guns in one, but then the next person that comes along may want to pick out their own configuration on a new upper... (assuming you sell it).

PS: Colt uppers are EXPENSIVE, but worth every penny. I have a pre-ban 20" 1/7 Match HBAR, and for the "right offer" I may be willing to sell... but I doubt it since they are hard to get, and are really good quality...

What is the twist rate of your barrel and the barrel markings? should be on the barrel, behind the flash hider. Something like C MP 1/7 7.62

The barrel markings are; "C MP 7.62x39 1/12". The serial number is LH0028xx so it should be a pre-ban... BUT......it has one of those sear blocks in the lower receiver !?!?!?
Its also marked "Sporter" which should make it a pre ban I'm told.

I have been out elk hunting so this is the first I have been able to reply. I appreciate the responses on this.

Some Sporters are post-ban-- I checked with Colt last week.

Also, Colt put sear blocks in some pre-bans.
