Colt Sporter 11 - AR15.COM

Any info on date of manufacture of my colt ar-15 a-2 Sporter 11. Serial #SP 3013** . It has no forward assist or case deflector, has triangular handguards,bayo lug, large front pin and 1-7 twist cmp marked 20" barrel. Does this fit status for an all original pre-ban rifle. It is preban but I question the upper. I've never seen a sporter II slickside w/ triangle handguards.

Except for the handguards it sounds corect for that serial number range. Colt was slow to implement all of the A2 features on the AR15A2 Sporter II. They started out with the A2 stock, grip and handguards and used an A2 barrel. Later they used the A1 type receiver, then the C7 receiver, then the A2 receiver.

What stock and grip is on your gun?

Mine is serial # 303xx and is the same with the exception of the handguards which are standard rifle. Mine has the LMG m60 style bipod also. A great shooter.

I agree with the others. It sounds correct except for the handguards. Somebody switched them out.
