I was looking at getting a Colt M4 but Colt say's that they are chambered in 223 and the ammo oricle was saying that it was in 5.56. does anyone know if it 5.56 or 223 or is it a comprimise between the two?

It's the stamping on the barrel of a Colt that matters, and all Colt M4s are chambered for 5.56.

Here is one of my Colt M4 barrels. Look closely for the text:

It reads C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7

C=Colt
M=Magnaflux particle tested
P=Proof load fired

5.56 NATO=caliber
1/7=Barrel rate of twist

Edited to add: Welcome to the site!
