I have recently bought a preban Colt 9mm upper and I am thinking about changing the birdcage flash  hider to a comp. and machining off the bayo. lug to make this a post ban compliant upper.  How much would this hurt the value of the outfit.  I got the upper, mag block and 2 colt 32 round mags as a package deal.  What do you think? Change it or wait to see if the ban subsides.

I say do it, then if/when the ban sunsets, have it SBR'd and reinstall the original flash hider. That way you don't lose the use of it for the next year and you have time to save your pennies for the SBR, too!

Leave the Colt barrel alone.

Buy an inexpensive ASA/RRA/Garrison barrel if all you are going to do is shoot it for fun.

Yup, remove the Colt barrel.
I agree "Buy an inexpensive ASA/RRA/Garrison barrel if all you are going to do is shoot it for fun."
