I’ve been shopping around for a collapsible stock for my preban and am looking for any feedback, good or bad on what to look for and what to avoid. I’ve read that you want aluminum buffer instead of plastic but that’s about it. I would also appreciate any opinions on brands as well.

What brand is your preban?
I would use their stock if they make one. If not go with a Colt (pricey), Bushmaster, RRA, etc. Some people say the old aluminum bodies rattle, though I've never had a problem. The new plastic style is nice too. It really depends on what you want to spend and what look you're going for.

Not Exactly.



Here is the RockRiver/Bushmaster/DPMS 6 Position Stock. Note the radius where the Colt is square, like the original M4 stock. Also the Colt has an inset (not a thru slot) for the sling loop. If you prefer to remove the loop on the Colt you will not have an unsightly slot thru your stock that could easily snag on something during transition. The Colt is 4 position and it has a closer fit. I have them both. I prefer the Colt.

My preban is an Essential Arms, so not chance of going with a original. They both look pretty good to me. I like the idea of the sling loop on the bottom. Some of the others I've looked at have a slot on the top for the sling. I was mainly curious about aluminum as opposed to the fiber ones. I want a good reliable stock but want to save my hard earned cash too !
