Hey gents, new to this.  I was wondering what AR-15 is closest to the Military issue M16A2.  I've went to Bushmaster and Colt's website and was unable to find anything.  My guess would be Bushmaster XM 15 E2S A2.  Colts site was disappointing.  Thanks

You guess correctly. And a *pre-ban* Bushmaster with a 20" A2-profile barrel will give you the closest thing available to the M16A2; the differences being strictly those having to do with semi vs full-auto fire.

Don't forget barrel twist! It is a marginal difference now; but if the heavy bullet fad continues it may not be.

Sounds like mine, with 1/7 A2 Colt Barrel.

And my Colt R6601, retrofit with ALL Colt Upper 1/7.

Pre-ban, COLT mod 6651 or was it 6551?  You know......the Govt mod.

I think the Colt R6550 Gov't Model was about as close as Colt got to the M16A2 in semi-auto.  I believe, however, that it still had the large front "screw/sleeve" pivot pin.  I've been searching for a NIB example of one of those for a while now.  Similar to a R6600 if I'm not mistaken but with a standard barrel contour.

Note that Bushmaster makes 20" A2 and 14.5" M4 barrels in both 1:9 and 1:7 twists, so you can have whichever you prefer.

Ahhh, many thanks Troy. I'd asked Bushmaster about 1:7 barrels via email a week ago and was still waiting for a response.

Bushmaster pre or post is a good choice for a close as possible match to the M16A2 service rifle.
