Any tips on cleaning the lower with a .22 dedicated upper?  I clean my upper regularly and get it pretty clean, but for the first time tonight I took a good look at the lower and trigger group.

It was a mess.

Gritty dirt particles through the whole lower and trigger group.  Short of pulling the trigger pins and doing a complete disassemble / reassemble, what tips and tricks do you guys have for cleaning?

I have probably 2,000 rds through at this point.

I spray mine out with de chlorinated carburettor cleaner or brake cleaner.

Hose it out with Hornady One Shot.

Scrub with solvent to loosen powder residue. Then hose out with brake cleaner or what have you. Then hit it with several shots of compressed air, preferably from a compressor, the cans just don't cut it, then re-lube engagement surfaces. Voila...done!

I usually just spray compressed air on the internals if it's not too dirty.   For good cleanings I use the odorless mineral spirits with CLP and apply/scrub it with parts brushes small enough to get inside.  The cleaner and crud drips out the trigger hole.  Then spray it with compressed air to dry it and lube the contact surfaces.

Here is my "Beds Bath and Beyond" AR parts cleaning tray.  A 9x 9 Teflon bakers pan and a metal silverware drawer tray for small parts.
