(cross posted from Reloading as theres some data in here as well)

Just wanted to post in case anyone 'needs' to know info regarding these 55gr. rounds for 16" barrels:

Rifle - midlength 16" chrome lined, 46 degrees F, 3 mph wind.

Federal "Brown Box" XM193 - (LC brass)
String 1 - 3038, 3065, 3080, 3048, 3020 = Avg. 3050 fps
String 2 - 3004, 3056, 3030, 3054, 3035 = Avg. 3036 fps

OA Avg. = 3043 fps

American Eagle "Commerical Red Box" 55gr. - (FC brass)
String 1 - 2891, 2938, 2871, 2946, 2881 = Avg. 2905 fps
String 2 - 2955, 2934, 2952, 2963, 2955 = Avg. 2952 fps

OA Avg. = 2929 fps

**Just to side note, have been able to successfully nearly duplicate (if not squeak out a bit more avg. velocity) the American Eagle with handloads using the no longer available AA2230C.  Still have enough though to do about 2000 rounds.

Used, RP once fired brass, Winchester 55gr FMJ, 25.5gr of AA2230C, with CCI BR4 primers - COAL varied - 2.205 through 2.209

Handloads
String 1 - 2911, 2918, 2980, 2912, 2972 = Avg. 2939 fps
String 2 - 2954, 2960, 2957, 2948, 2937 = Avg. 2951 fps

OA Avg. = 2945 fps

Just last night, tweaked up these handloads for 25.8gr of AA2230C as I showed no pressure signs in the 25.5grs.  Max listed on bottle is 26gr.

Except, forgot them on the reloading bench when I left to go to the range this morning!!!!!

All for now!

Well, we know that the WWB 55gr fmj frags at 25m and is slightly slower than the Amer. Eagle.

It seems like the AE would be a good (sub) alternate for shtf if you don't have any:

Q3131, XM193, Guat, Malay, or M855 (or variant)

Would be nice to see some gel tested AE rounds.

Great work!

I would be interested in the same kind of true comparisons of Winchesters 3131 and 223R1 , along with frag info on the 223R1

This is great news, since I can actually find AE ammo. XM193 is too high most places right now, IF you can find it. Natchez had some, but they won't sell direct to GA residents.

223 55FMJ will frag way past 25m

Yeah, I know--my reference to 25m was from the previous thread w/ a 25m gel tested WWB.
Just using that as a 'point of memory'.  Also remember that the round had a long 'neck' before fragging.

HKgnnr, FALARAK,
                   Thanks for posting up.
I see the Guatemalan is running in the 3200 fps range from a 20" barrel.
I'm wondering if anyone has chrono'd any 5.56 Radway from different headstamp years like 92' and '93?
Or Guat from different years?

Thanks.
