Chinese 5.56? - AR15.COM

Friend has a wooden case of 5.56 on the floor of his shop with what appears to be Chinese markings on it. Did Norinco ever make 5.56 x 45 for the US import market? If so, is it any good? Thinking about buying some from him,

Yes, NORINCO manufacture of M193-spec ammo is listed in Jane's Ammunition Handbook (but no other type).

I have no specific knowledge of this ammo, but I've heard things about some other Chinese ammo which would make me wary. They seem more interested in cost than quality or other minor issues like corrosiveness.

I've seen it sold way back in the day. From what I recall, it wasn't all that accurate and was dirty. Can't recall anything about corrosiveness. I'd avoid it personally, but that's just me. I also avoid Wolf, so there you go.

Thanks for the responses. I was thinking it was in a value range comparable to Wolf. Also a bit concerned because even though it is in sealed cans inside the case, I don't think he mainains any real temperature control in his shop. If I buy it, I probably won't run it in an AR, but in an AK chambered for 5.56. I appreciate that you got back to me about it, any more input will also be appreciated.

I still have a few boxes of NORINCO .223 sitting in the bottom of the ammo bunker. The only thing about it that I recollect from shooting it is the enormous muzzle flash that it produces.

If I had to place a value on it, I'd rank it as on par with Wolf and Barnaul. It probably has more collectors value than anything else.

I don't think I can justify buying it for collecting, perhaps for training use with a rifle that doesn't mind sooty ammo. Maybe he will let it go cheap, if not, sounds like I won't be missing much to pass on this opportunity. Thanks for the input.
