I checked out the Army/Air Force TM on the M-16 and the part discussing headspace was very unclear to me.  Do you have to take the extractor off?  I gather that the bolt will not lock up on a "go" gauge"... is that correct?  If the bolt closes on a "no go" gauge how is the condition corrected?  What do I need to know?

Bolt must close on the GO gage, must not close on the NO-GO for brand new rifles. Used rifles must not close on the FIELD gage. The gage referenced in the below drawing is the 5.56 NATO (not .223 Rem) FIELD gage. BSW
