I just built a pistol with Spikes buffer tube and foam. The charging handle is dragging hard enough on the foam to keep the bolt from fully chambering a round.
Anybody else having this problem? Are there any good solutions, or is Spikes foam just too thick?

Thanks

I have spike new buffer also. He had told everyone when they first came out you need to trim the foam tube to fit. Kind of a crappy design. should be made to fit but what you going to do.....

Had this same problem on an AR-15 with ACE skeletal and PRI gas buster.  Foam pad is thick enough to interfere with the extra metal on the gas buster.

Me, I got rid of the foam pad, my cheek can handle bare metal.  That's an AR though.

The foam on the Spikes buffer tube needs to be trimmed back.  Trimmed mine so that the PRI gas buster charging handle would clear.  I can still get a good cheek weld on the foam and is still very comfortable/functional to shoot.

You can also push the charging handle  all the way forward and use the bolt release to chamber the round.

I have the Spikes buffer tube and foam as well. Simply sand it with some sandpaper where it rubs the charging handle. It'll thin it where needed and will be unnoticable.

I have had the same problem and came up with this solution. I made a new cover that doesn't interfere with the charge handle. I will post some pics  here and start a new thread soon.

I ended up cutting off about 3" of the foam before putting it on.  its much too long to get on the spikes tube and if you push it all on there it bunches up and becomes thicker.

if you use hairspray and do it fast it will slide right on, then pull both ends apart and hold them there.  the hairspray sticks and the thickness of the foam is reduced by stretching it.
