I have the standard rifle stock on my Ar and am considering putting on a M4 type stock.  Here's the link:

Do I need any special tool to take off the old one.  Does the one I'm looking at come with everything I need to get it up and running, or am I going to have to buy something else to get it working?

It looks like it comes with everything you need.  It is very simple to take off your stock, start with the bolts on the back and slide, unscrew the tube and your set.  Beware of the little spring that wants to pop out, just leave it in and make sure it goes in with the new stock.  Good luck

You will need a Car stock wrench or an armorers tool to tighten the nut on your new buffer tube/receiver extention. The Car stock wrench is only $5 at Bravo Co.

Go to the build it yourself section and look at the sticky threads at the top. There is one titled build your own lower etc. etc. scroll down in it and you will see how a adjustable stock is installed.

SO I can unscrew the old stock with the CAR wrench and simply take it off, then slip in the new one?  That's it?

Click the link that I added to my last post and scroll down. It's almost that easy you just have to watch out for a couple of springs. They go into orbit very easily.

ETA The old stock will come off with a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench.

Thanks, but will these $65 dollar stocks be a solid fit? I've been reading about some guys get a wobble in their collapsable stock.  I don't wanna spend big bucks on this thing, and if the one I'm looking at is gonna wobble, I'll stick with my fixed stock.

Anyone buy the one in my link or can reccomend a solid stock for less than 75 bucks?  I have a Colt .223 Match Targer with a 16" barrel.

You know the old maxim when it comes to buying parts, right?  You get what you pay for.

I had a cheapie 6 position collapsible that took a dump.  I looked at the Magpul and VLTOR as well as the Ace Ltd. M4 SOCOM stock.  I bit the bullet and bought the Ace stock.  After installing it, I can see that I made a damn good purchase.

It has a hefty solid feel.  Not like the collapsible I had.  All in all, I felt it was a worthy purchase.

On M4 stocks, the only way to tell is to try it.  Some (most) wobble, but it may not be much and it isn't a big deal.  If you have wobble, tape or mold the stock so that it doesn't.  Buy cheap ass Chinese stocks and you WILL have wobble.

The first hurdle you need to get over is thinking that $65 is big bucks for a stock.  In the realm of BRD, that is about as cheap as it gets for something reliable.  VLTORs, MagPuls, SOCOM = $150+.

The standard M4 stock from BavoCo is a good buy if you want a no-frills collapsable.  It might wobble some, but that's manageable if you really can't live with it.

I know 65 bucks in on the cheap side.  I usually go first class with all my gun related purchases.  I got the itch to put a M$ stock on my AR.  Maybe I'll let it sit for a while.  Thanks for the responses!
