Is it a (big) problem to change a handguard cap?

The problem is, I have bought a (cheap) Surefire M81 rail system for my midlength AR-15. But my handguard cup is triangular, so the rail will not fit.
Is is possible without problems to change the handguard cup and if yes, how will this be done?

Thanks in advance,

Daniel
