Hi guys,

For a while, I've been wanting to finish a set of furniture for my 601 replica in mottled brown (can you believe I haven't done this for myself yet ).  A couple of weeks ago, I finally got around to doing it.  For comparison, the "before" picture with the green furniture is at the very bottom of this post.

In many pictures I've seen of the real deal, I've noticed the pistol grips and buttstocks seem to be darker than the handguards.  I tried to replicate this on my furniure, but I should have made the stock/grip darker.  It's hard to see in the pictures, but my handguards are a little lighter.  It's hard to do because the color changes once the pigment dries, then it changes again after the sealer is applied.

Anyway, the pictures are below of my latest project:

In the few I've had, the ones with the darker shade seem to be the ones that were once green, but have had the green paint removed.

John, that looks awesome!
Is there any possibility you could do a set with more of a reddish tint like the AR10 HG on your prototype?

I gotta fix that sling... I didn't notice until you pointed it out.

Thanks,

Beel,

I can do that color.  In fact, I've already played around with it and have a picture to show you. (see below).

In the picture, please ignore the roughness and black showing through.  This was just a test piece I was practicing on.  The real finish I do for paying customers is smooth with complete coverage.

In the picture below, the grip is the real thing, the handguard shows the color combo I was playing with.

Flash66,

Your parts are coming along nicely.  The picture below is of your parts (in work).  The three pieces shown are almost done , and the buttstock isn't far behind them. I'll try to get a picture of it for you soon, also.  EDIT... second picture with buttstock (in work) added.

Take care,
John Thomas

Wow, neat!!  Though I am partial to the green, the brown looks great too!
What does it run to do a set of furniture?

Thx

John,

Very Nice!!

Have you ever considered recontouring and painting a type D to mimic the type A stock?

I have tried it once... on my prototype build.  The hard outer coating of the stock gets very thin in some places.  Picture is below:

I have done this with a brown AR10B stock,C stock is for comparison.Brown AR10 B stock is the same size and shape as an M16A1 type E stock:

Nice. Did you notice the outer shell getting thin as was posted above?

Is the type C stock next.

With this stock,if you look down inside it there is yellow hard mass (I assume an E stock has the same,I've never owned one).As I "carved" this one,it did end up removining the brown down to the yellow,I'm NOT concerned as the yellow stuff is actually harder then the brown coating.I plan to do something special to this stock anyway with the help of Hal,so in the end,the yellow will not show.If you did this to a C or D stock,I think you would end up too thin or even exposing the foam on the inside.I'll be back shortly with other pics of this one.
Ohhh,,AND HELL NO,,that C stock is reserved for a close friend if he ever finds an original 602 upper,,,he just doesn't know it yet
