Odd question, I know...Humor me.

If I have an ARMS #40L and an ARMS #38 sleeve, can I swap the flip up portions of the two sights?

In other words, are the bases between a #40 and #40L the same?

Maybe an easier question is:

If I had a #40 and a #40L can I swap the flips on those?  I'm reasonably sure there is no difference between the base on a #40 and the base on a #38.

if you can get the steel pivot pin out then it would be possible

but imo an expensive idea and way to find out.

I haven't tried it but in looking at both units side by side it wouldn't work.

The lever arms are two different sizes and the surfaces that the sights fold down onto are two different heights....so I imagine that the #40L would not fold down flat.

I don't see a need to do this anyway as the folded sight on the #38 is lower in relation to the #38 rail than the #40L is to your flat-top receiver rail.

That may be, however, a folded 40L is lower than a folded 40 or 38 sight.  The sight on the 38 interferes with my scope, hence I was looking for another solution.

I see.

And you're welcome for the answer

Crud, I hadnt thought of that. The arm on the #40L is shorter than the one on the #40/#38.

Correct, but even if you swapped out the lever arms, the surface below the sight that it sits on when folded would be too high for the #40L to fold down onto.

Oh, and thanks for the answer.

I'll just have to get my hacksaw out.
