I have $600 to build an AR. This includes shipping, mags etc.

What I want is a AR flat top. I dont want any sights, sight posts etc. I want to be able to mount a scope on it.

Can it be done? Further more, can I build a $600 AR that is decent?

Sorry for such a novice

Yes you can, but you will need some tools to assemble it.
Or check the EE, lots of good deals there on used rifles.

You can buy a S&W MP-15 for $599 after rebate from CDNN

Flat top no sights.

Yeah this. Why build a franken rifle if you can have a new M&P that is exactly what you want.

Unless you're having a build off or something.

Yeah...that haha. Pretty much decides it right there.

It can be done, yes, quality? Well yeah if you are very patient, but again a much nicer rifle could be built for another couple hundred. I would say the S&W is the best bet. for 599 you can get a DSA, CMMG Bargin bin, or S&W from cdnn and the S&W is the best quality (chrome lined barrel) out of these. If you want to build watch the EE and http://www.elitedealseeker.com/?category=gunstuff and be patient.

Doubtful for $600...$700 will do it though.

I built 3 budget rifles and ended up getting rid of them at a loss. I finally built 2 that I liked. They were not cheap, but I like them and I am confident they will be dependable. I say save your money.... it will be worth it in the end.

Just be patient, scan the classifieds and browse the gun shops and you'll gather cheap parts over time. I ended up with a $680 build, but that included a troy rail, buis and magpul furniture, so $600 shouldn't be a problem. And that was with all brand name components too. You just have to resist the temptation of blowing your budget on the remaining parts half way through the build just so you can get it done. And don't cut corners, you WILL regret it, it's worth it to build it right the first time. Otherwise you will waste a lot of money later trying to turn your budget build into something it's not.

You could build a J&T distributing kit for that.

Get this kit, select the flat top option, I have had good luck with J&T BCGs but you can get the kit without one and save $75, then get a bravo BCG which IMO is about the best deal for your money and be all set.

What all would be involved with putting that kit together? What I want comes out to $558 shipped (+ $25 FFL), so its not a bad price.

If u don't want a fsb, then maybe this.  $675, I'm sure there's a discount around here somewhere.

If you could pick up the lower reciever and parts locally, it could be easily done.  Hell you could probably do it with a cheap lower from anywhere shipped (~100), lpk (~60), stock from AIM (~40) and a complete upper from JSE (~350).

Plum Crazy complete lowers are $135 shipped + transfer fees.  $360 to get one for of the complete flat-top uppers from JSE and you few bucks left for mags or whatever you want.

Can't speak to the quality, but it could be done.

You can pick up an entire rifle at our local gun shops for 699.

I think you likely could build a bare bones flat top for 600.00. The Smith would be my choice over something that would likely be much less in quality. Or you could wait till either Spikes or BCm runs a special. i think Spikes m4 was 799.99. Its a lot of gun for the price and leagues above what you would likely wind up with assembling one out of the cheapest parts possible.

Take your pick:

DSA complete lower $200

Spike's stripped lower $70
Bushmaster LPK $57
6-pos comm stock kit $35
All products from AIM so figure $20 s/h

add choice of JT or DTI upper and you should easily be under $600

a del-ton m4 kit for 485 plus a spikes stripped lower for $70 should put you around $600 after shipping and whatnot right?

The upper comes assembled and headspaced, so no worries there. There are directions for assembling a stripped lower here in the build it yourself forum, your first time it may take you a half hour. No special tools needed, a hammer and a roll pin punch, either an allen wrench or screw driver depending on the screw that holds on the pistol grip.

being that 100% of people spend too much money on food, eat less/cheap for a month, get healthier(most likely) and get another 200-300 dollars for your gun.  if you really want a good gun, you can survive relatively comfortably on $50 for a month of food.

...wouldnt believe how much money people waste on nourishment.

lol I eat healthy, but to maintain my weight/muscle I have to eat well over 50$ a week in food.

I vote for a J&T kit + your choice of stripped lower. Actually, if you are worried about assembling the lower I would just get that S&W for 600$

Sure you can. Just look for deals like this:

Then save your money....

and then save some more...

All this aside, deals like this one are tough if not impossible to come by. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. You canhowever build a decent workable AR for 600 bucks. Good luck.
